The 2013 Ubud Readers and Writers Festival takes place from 11 - 15 October this year and features over 170 writers, artists, performers and musicians. The festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is held in the charming setting of Ubud and includes travel writing, comedy, poetry, plays and even songwriting. This year welcomes best-selling UK author, Sebastian Faulks, as well as Rolling Stone Woman of the Year, Clare Bowditch.
The festival offers both ticketed and free events, with discounts available to students and KITAS holders. Four Day and One Day passes are now on sale, for more details click here. There's also a lot more going on than just literary stuff, with cooking classes, batik weaving workshops, dance, music making and mask painting all taking place.
It should be noted that the festival is held across many venues, ranging from restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and even holistic retreats throughout Ubud. The Indus Restaurant and the Neka Museum in the Sanggingan area host the main events, so it's not a bad idea to head there first.
The festival is a great excuse to visit Ubud and stay at one of the many delightful guest houses or small hotels dotted around the village. If you're looking for something a little more upmarket, Ubud is also home to some of the most luxurious resorts on the island. These include Alila Ubud, Four Seasons and Maya Ubud Resort & Spa.
