"Gili T" is the largest of the three Gili islands and offers the biggest choice of accommodation, ranging from private villas and upmarket resorts to quaint little guesthouses and simple homestays.
Trawangan has become popular with backpackers due to a good supply of cheap rooms and an increasing party scene. It's also a favorite hangout for divers, with more than 20 dive shops and one of the only free-diving schools in Asia operating on the island.
Bars and beach shacks line the main drag, and there's also a couple of ATMs and mini markets for basic supplies. Snorkeling gear can be rented from most places for around Rp25,000 a day. A turtle hatchery up the northern end of the island is doing a great job of releasing hundreds of hatchlings every year, adding to the island's eco appeal.
Gili Trawangan is the ideal island escape if you're looking for fantastic snorkeling and diving and are up for a good party at night. It can get crowded and overpriced during high season and accommodation is best booked in advance.
