If you've been in Bali for the past few days, you would have noticed how the wind has picked up considerably. Although not ideal for a day on the beach (who likes sand being whipped up into your face), it is ideal for something - flying kites.
The Bali Kite Festival is held on the beach at Padang Galak near Sanur every year, and if you're in Bali now you can get the chance to watch this fun event as it's currently running until 20th June 2014.
Hundreds of kites will be flown by teams of young men from banjars across Bali to compete with other kites assembled over the weeks leading up to the event.
The kite festival is a popular event that is open to the public and with kites as large as a truck or a bus being transported to the venue, often taking up more than the width of one lane, it can create a bit of a traffic problem on the ByPass road.
But it's worth the effort and once there, you can enjoy the festive atmosphere on the beach and watch some of the biggest kites in the world take to flight.
