5 Restaurants for Vegetarians in Bali 2013.09.04

vegetarian Bali is a vegetarian's dream. Forget about having to search high and low for a good vegetarian meal - Bali is home to some of the most veggie-friendly restaurants in Indonesia.

With tofu and tempe forming part of the local staple diet, it's not hard to find a cheap and tasty meat-free dish. Ubud and Seminyak in particular offer a choice of health-conscious cafes and restaurants that cater to all sorts of special diets, be it vegan, gluten- or dairy-free.

Zula, Seminyak

Located on the vibrant Jl. Dyana Pura street in Seminyak, Zula is owned by Down to Earth and is the only truly vegan restaurant in town. The entire menu is based on macrobiotic principals and also includes fresh health drinks and juices. Organic produce and natural cosmetics are on sale at the attached health shop - sometimes difficult to find in Bali. Zula is a one-stop vegetarian shop and is proud to not use "anything with a face or a mother". Deliveries are also available.

Bali Buddha, Ubud

Bali Buddha is one of our favorite excuses to visit Ubud, and we can easily spend a couple of hours hanging out at their relaxing upstairs restaurant located within walking distance of the Royal Palace. The original leaders in the organic movement on Bali, Bali Buddha now has outlets in three locations, namely Ubud, Kerobokan and on the Bukit in Uluwatu, so there's bound to be one near you. A variety of vegan, raw food and vegetarian dishes are homemade each day, as well as yummy desserts, smoothies, freshly ground coffees and Indian chai.
