Seminyak Area Guide 2013.07.12

Seminyak, fashionable and upmarket beach town

Located just north of Kuta and Legian, the stylish area of Seminyak appeals to those with a more refined sense of style. Luxury spas, designer boutiques and 5-Star hotels make Seminyak a haven for both expats and locals alike.

Besides offering some of the best shopping on the island, Seminyak is also well known for its selection of amazing eateries ranging from fine dining establishments to cute little cafes.

Stylish designer shops and funky boutiques line the streets of Seminyak, and visitors can enjoy shopping on foot all along Jl. Raya Seminyak, Jl. Dyana Pura and Jl. Laksmana (also known as Oberoi or "Eat Street").

The small shopping center at Seminyak Square is home to around 10 stores, including an upmarket hair salon, a deli for foreigners and the famous Bali Bakery for freshly baked delights.

The beach in Seminyak does not offer watersports other than surfing and body boarding. The best way to spend the day is to rent a beach chair and umbrella from one of the many vendors and just soak up the sun.

Beach clubs have also become very popular, where you can enjoy a cocktail at sunset while listening to laid-back beats. Some of the best beach clubs include Potato Head, Ku De Ta and Cocoon.

The streets of Jl. Dyana Pura, Oberoi and Petitinget are the best place for nightlife and entertainment in Seminyak, with the cabaret bars on Dyana Pura a well-known attraction.

Seminyak is also home to some of the best restaurants in Bali, serving cuisines of all types including Italian, French, Indonesian and Japanese. Head to Jl. Laksmana, also aptly called "Eat Street", to sample some of the amazing dishes on offer.

Stylish clubs and bars are located along Petitinget Street and cater to mainly a well-dressed European and American crowd.

Seminyak offers a range of luxury spas, many of which are located within the upmarket resorts that line the beach, such as The Legian and W Hotel. Stepping away from the beach, Jari Menari on Jl. Raya Seminyak is well-known for their Four Hand massage and the relaxing Tibetan Singing Bowl massage.

Private villa accommodation has become increasingly popular with tourists, and a basic internet search will show you just how many villas are now available in Bali.  With all the comforts and facilities of a hotel or resort, private villas offer a more intimate experience and often include a private splash pool, butler, chef and driver.

Luxury resorts such as The Legian, Anantara, W Retreat and Oberoi take up prime locations along Seminyak's beachfront, with a price to match. Budget accommodation in Seminyak is a little harder to find; there are a few options along Gang Bima and behind the Bintang supermarket.
