Jimbaran Area Guide 2013.07.11

Quiet and peaceful resort area near the airport

Jimbaran is a lovely, quiet area located just 10 minutes' drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport and is one of Bali's original fishing villages.

There are many seafood restaurants along Jimbaran beach that offer grilled seafood dishes, as well as international cuisine. Tourists can stay in one of several luxurious resorts situated in the area, and can easily travel to other places of interest by taxi or renting a car with driver.

Many tourists come to Jimbaran to visit the popular Pottery Gallery, Jenggala-Keramikku. However if homewares and batik are what you're after, visit the shopping arcade on the first floor of Kupu-Kupu Jimbaran resort, known as Jimbaran Corner. Here you will find Bin House, sellers of  luxurious batik, Periplus bookstore, Vinoti Living who stock deluxe interior goods, and much more. With no streets lined with souvenir shops as in Kuta or Seminyak, this area is a refreshing change and suited for those looking for a more relaxed experience.

Day time

There are no sport activities in Jimbaran as such; the area is more about seafood rather than anything else. The area is very popular in the evening time and is fairly quiet in the afternoon. We recommend visiting the local cultural park, Garuda Wisnu Kencana or "GWK", located on the Bukit Peninsula at the southern end of the island.

Watching sunset at Uluwatu Temple, one of the most beatiful temples in Bali, is also highly recommended. Many tourists come to enjoy a fascinating sunset view from the temple in the evenings, with traditional Balinese Kecak dance performance held at sunset daily. If you want to avoid the crowds and traffic, plan your visit to the temple during the day. In addition, the Uluwatu area is also famous for its legendary surf spots such as "Dreamland Beach" and "Blue Point Beach".

Jimbaran beach restaurants are most popular from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm each day. There are not only seafood restaurants on the beach, but also some Italian restaurants on the left and right side around Uluwatu, along Jimbaran Street. The Rock Bar, located in the luxury Ayana Resort, is highly recommended if you want to enjoy a couple of sunset cocktails and then have dinner. The view from the bar is breathtaking and to avoid queuing up for sunset, it is suggested to arrive early.

Jimbaran area offers a wide range of spa salons from the cheap to the luxurious. Guests can choose a spa package or separate treatments in accordance with their personal budget and preferences.

There are very few mid-range or small hotels in Jimbaran; the area tends to offer more luxury accommodations such as the Ayana Resort, Four Seasons, Intercontinental, Kayumanis and Karma Jimbaran. Kupu Kupu Jimbaran was opened in 2011 and the famous international chain, Le Meridien, just opened its hotel in Jimbaran in May 2013.
